The film depicts the life of young rich farmer Andre. Andre was educated, smart and strong. His wife, Crute, was gentle and tolerant. They bought a deserted farm together and wanted to start a new life here. Their neighbor Pell was rude and refused to cooperate. Andre wanted to build the canal with Perrault, but there were always contradictions. Perrault also killed his hound and even set up the scene so that Andre could not accuse him of his crime. Andre thinks that Perrault is a complete rogue who is bent on seeking revenge, while Crute always mediates the contradiction between her husband and neighbors.
